Harley Quinn Pinup (PREVIEW)

I enjoyed drawing Harley so much that I had to make another one!!!

Is tracing a bad thing?

Some of you might have noticed that I trace elements of my images from time to time. Is that considered cheating? Well to me, it would if the image looks exactly the same as the original, but if for exampe I only trace one small part of a character's body, is that enough for me to credit to original artist?

Let's take the Leela / Bender pic I recently did. It was based on the original drawing by artist Freako. Here are the images side by side.

On the left you have Freako's image and on the right you have my image. Now it's pretty obvious that the face is almost exactly the same, and the way Leela is positioned is too. Interestingly, the only part traced in this image is indeed the face, the rest was done by myself. I trace sometimes and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

So there are a few questions stemming from this :

Does that mean I suck at drawing?
I would say no to that, although I'm not the best either. But there's alot of my stuff that's 100% original on here. Sometimes tracing can be used to get your proportions right and then you just make the necessecary changes to make the art look different.

Does that make me a fraud?
Well if I traced the image 100% and changed articles of clothing or the background image, yes. But I'm not that kind of person. I sometimes use one or two parts of an original image if I deem them fit to be part of the type of image I want to do.

Should I credit the original artist just for using one or two features?
That's debatable. Some would say yes, some would say no. To me, it really depends on the extent of tracing used.

Is it considered as stealing?
No. I've seen many professional comic book artists trace. Even my comic book class teacher did it back in the day. Does that make him a thief too? Absolutely not. He just took an image and made it into his own work. Just like I do. I never fully trace an original drawing. To me that's stealing and a lack of originality.

What do you guys think? Is tracing really all that bad? One thing I know is that I'll continue doing what I do, no matter what people say, tracing or no tracing. To me This isn't a job, it's a hobby! :-)

Peace out!

Harley Quinn and Mistah J! (Bruce Timm Tribute)

I love Bruce Timm and I love his renditions of Harley Quinn. This is a drawing that he made a while back and I like it so much that I decided to recreate it, but with a few of my own little modifications! A little more XXX than the original. Nothing but respect for this guy, he's really one of the best cartoon artists in the world!! I'll be posting the image tomorrow! :-)

Quick Update : I'm in the coloring process right now. Don't have much time today, but hopefully I'll have it done by tonight. Here's another preview.

Let me politely make this clear...

Hey guys,

I really don't want to sound arrogant or hateful, but I would really appreciate if people would stop requesting drawings of cartoon children in xxx situations. I'm really not a fan of drawing kids in those types of scenes. I know, I know... I did the Marge/Bart pic, but that was (and will be) the only time. As far as Stewie, yes he's a baby, but he's not portrayed as a child, instead he's viewed as more of an adult than anything else. So I guess he could be an exception. (But that's still debatable.)

I CAN, however, draw ADULT versions of these characters. I have absolutely no problem with that.

One other thing, I can't always fulfill your requests, because I am a very busy man! Drawing is not my main priority! Although I really love doing it, I also have another job called "life" lol. :-P So please don't be offended if you don't see your requests posted. I will however, be available for commissions starting on October 1st, so send me you requests and I'll consider them and give you an answer on wether I approve it or not.

I really hope you guys understand and really appreciate the support you have given me (especially in the past weeks, where my life was in a little bit of a downslide).

Take care and see you soon! :-)

Taking some time off...

Hey guys, just letting you know I'll be taking about a week's worth or time off. Someone from my family passed away and I'm just not in the mood to draw right now. For those of you who have requested commissions, I'll try my best to answer you next week. Thanks for understanding and most of all, thank you for your support!

Peace out.
